It’s still all knotted up at the top of the LIS girls basketball standings after Trinity Episcopal and St. Anne’s-Belfield both picked up wins Friday.
With one crucial clash left Tuesday with Trinity squaring off against third place St. Catherine’s on the road, the race is extremely tight headed into next week’s LIS tournament. Because of the league’s one-game-counts rule in the standings, STAB will be the No. 1-seed and the regular season champion.
Trinity moved to 21-1 on the season with a 47-33 win over Collegiate Friday, with Elaina Chapman scoring 17 and Jaelyn Harris finishing with 13 to power the Titans. Collegiate’s Tierra Morris scored 14 while Rachel Lifson had 10.
St. Anne’s managed a 51-37 win over St. Catherine’s, with a balanced offense leading the way. Junior point guard Jovia Winkey scored 15 points for the Saints while Vanessa Woodfolk notched an efficient 10 points from the field on 5-for-6 shooting. Sophomore Scottie Hull and senior Sierra Smith each chipped in eight points while Bailey Cullen finished with seven.
Smith added 15 rebounds while Woodfolk pulled down eight and blocked four shots while dishing out four assists. Winkey nabbed four steals.
Mary Clarke Wallace led St. Catherine’s with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Cara Menges had five points and four assists. Jearice Black had 10 points.
The St Catherine’s/Trinity Episcopal showdown looms Tuesday before LIS tournament play starts Friday night.
