St. Catherine’s wins 2018 LIS Indoor Track championship

St. Catherine’s wrapped up its eighth-straight League of Independent Schools indoor track and field championship Saturday, piling up 212 points to runner-up Collegiate’s 111.5 points to sew up another title.

 

The Saints won 10 individual events in rolling to the victory, with two relay championships in the 4×200 and 4×400 leading the way. The Saints also snagged third in the 4×800.

 

Individually, Jailah Channer put together a ton of points, winning the high jump, triple jump and 300-meter dash while also snagging third in the long jump and third in the 55-meter dash.

 

Hannah Ballowe doubled up with wins in the 1000 and 1600 meter races and Megan Murphy won the championship in the pole vault.

 

Wila Shannon also had a big day, winning the 55-meter hurdles and snagging the runner-up spot in the 55-meter dash. Reny Horner won the long jump and finished as the runner-up in the 300.

 

A pack of third place finishes bolstered the Saints’ effort. Emerson Foster took third in the 300, Archer Gurkin third in the 500, Julia Galbraith third in 1600 and Parker Longood took third in 55 hurdles. Anjali Mead took second in the pole vault and Anna Hubbard took third in the pole vault.

 

Collegiate’s second place finish got a boost from Caliyah Bennett’s 55-meter dash win and Maggie Bostain’s win in the 500-meter dash.  The Cougars took the runner-up spot in the 4×400 and 4×800 races. Maddy Watkins was the runner-up in the 3200 while Kathryn Sutherland took third in that race. Izzy Leey was the runner-up in the 1000. Rebecca Watson took second in the high jump and Grace Stratford took third. Emily Mendelson took second in the triple jump. Sadie Woodhouse took second in the shotput and Maisy Fling took third.

 

Norfolk Academy took third, winning the 4×800 and finishing as the runner-up in the 4×200 and third in the 4×400. Elle Lambert finished third in the 1000. Olivia Newsome finished as the runner-up in the long jump.

 

Covenant finished fourth in the meet, with Ella Dalton winning the 3200 while also finishing as the runner-up in the 1600 while Hallie Reese won the shot put.

 

Trinity’s Maggie Turner finished as the runner-up in the 500 while Morgan Williams was the runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles and third in triple jump.
