St. Catherine’s wraps up LIS cross country title

St. Catherine’s cross country team pulled it off, but it wasn’t easy.


The Saints had to hold off Collegiate Friday to win the LIS cross country championships, St. Catherine’s first team title since 2014.  Individual champion Hannah Ballowe, who crossed the finish line in 19:55.04, led the Saints. Julia Galbraith and Anne Heaton Noble finished sixth and seventh individually, followed by Julia Palumbo in 11th and Anne Gamble Jennings in 21st.


Those five top performances for St. Catherine’s totaled 46 points to edge Collegiate, who finished with 54 points. Freshman Elyse Cram and senior Izzy Lebey went back-to-back at fourth and fifth place. Maddy Watkins finished 10th while Kathryn Sutherland took 16th and Mohini Johri finished 19th.


Trinity Episcopal finished third overall led by third place finisher Mary Kehoe and eighth place freshman Ashley Dobzyniak while Veritas took fourth led by senior Ellie Kastelein in 13th. Covenant finished  fifth with sophomore Ella Dalton taking third place overall individually. Defending champion St. Anne’s took sixth with Javaneh Brown finishing ninth.
